south for the winter?

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

I’d been hoping for a call about a co-op experience for this coming spring, and yesterday it came. Jacobs Engineering’s “Engineering and Science Contract Group” has a contract with NASA (formerly held by Lockheed Martin), and they are taking up to 20 students each semester to co-op with them in Houston. The lady [...]

linux wireless

Thursday, September 1st, 2005

I received this email earlier today at work (massively cut since it was lengthy):

I have been struggling with a Win2K networking problem

the ThinkPad would not pick up my 80211.b WAP

At this point I am faced with reinstalling Windows 2000 or upgrading to
Linux

I never thought I’d see the day when someone considered switching to linux for [...]

the week so far

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

It looks like it’s been a while since I’ve written I felt the need to update, but at the same time there’s nothing really newsworthy and exciting to report.

work environment

Friday, July 15th, 2005

Prompted by Travis Bradshaw’s recent response to Jesse Greenwald’s post about office spaces and design, I started thinking about what my chances are of ending up in an environment like that instead of a cube farm or prison like I’ve had the pleasures of working in thus far.

break and the coming week

Monday, March 28th, 2005

Well, spring break came… and spring break went. It wasn’t all that exciting since I stayed in Manhattan and worked the whole time, but having the week off from classes was a nice change from the monotony of the last 2 months.

random short thoughts

Sunday, March 6th, 2005

I think I have a mental problem… I’m not sure what the root of it is, but it manifests itself through my inaction. I’d say that it’s a lack of self-confidence, [...]

back to normalcy

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

School started up on last Wednesday, and I’m actually kind of glad that my schedule is back to the normal “schools-in-session” grind. My 9-5 life is once again taken up by classes first, with any time I’m not in class being devoted to work for the department. I’ve been back on worship teams [...]

semester end

Thursday, December 16th, 2004

As of noon today another semester has come to a close for me. Dr. Mary Hubbard has been a terrific geology teacher all year, and she made my day by allowing those with an ‘A’ or ‘B’ in the class to opt out of the final exam if they were satisfied with their current [...]

towed

Wednesday, December 8th, 2004

Suck.
Today started off bad — the guy who I share a bathroom with got up about 30 seconds earlier than I did, so I awake to the sound of the bathroom door closing. Ok, I hadn’t really budgeted in time to sit around and twiddle my thumbs, but I made the most of my down [...]

NFS woes continue

Wednesday, December 1st, 2004

This evening, our file server (keid) decided to get into a bad state and stop accepting connections from certain hosts. “Luckily” enough one of these hosts was our mailserver, which means that users of Maildirs have a few hours worth of my in their spool…. happy happy joy joy. I did a quick [...]
