college graduation

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

I don’t really feel like writing, but it seems like I should given the events of the past few days. I’m finished with my bachelor’s degree now, and I’m joining the “real world” tomorrow when I start work at Garmin.
No exciting news to report on the house… they still haven’t done anything on it. [...]

semester-end update

Monday, January 15th, 2007

It’s been a couple months since I’ve posted any sort of an update on my life, so…. here goes:
I completed all of my fall-semester classes and received acceptable grades for them… kind of. I currently have two incomplete grades for the semester. One of them is from a year-long software engineering project class [...]

user-driven sysadmin

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Dr. Hsu recently wrote an entry about the “user-driven sysadmin” and labeled me as one. It’s nice to see that your work is appreciated sometimes.

So… I’ve been doing a lot of writing papers and stats homework this semester. I just wanted to say that…

CIS 308

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

I feel the need to write something about CIS 308 and the experience that I’ve had with it over the past few months. The trouble is, I don’t really know how to say what I want without sounding arrogant, condescending, or resentful…. go figure.

de-stressing

Sunday, November 6th, 2005

Aww, what a wonderful weekend. I got to spend all day Saturday and Sunday with friends/family from NW Kansas, and it proved to be a great time and very relaxing.
I need to do that again soon if school keeps exhausting me as much as it has this past week.

south for the winter?

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

I’d been hoping for a call about a co-op experience for this coming spring, and yesterday it came. Jacobs Engineering’s “Engineering and Science Contract Group” has a contract with NASA (formerly held by Lockheed Martin), and they are taking up to 20 students each semester to co-op with them in Houston. The lady [...]

busy, busy, busy

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

This week has sucked in a big way. I had some friends over during the weekend, so nothing much got done during that time period. Then I had exams on Monday and Tuesday. Long homework assignments were due Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. I attended two meetings on Wednesday. And now it’s [...]

“penalty” quiz?

Thursday, September 1st, 2005

I’m taking Geology 102 (Earth Through Time) from Dr. Allen Archer this semester, and he has a policy that any cell phone ringing during class results in a pop quiz for everybody. At least in theory, the peer pressure should be enough to keep any sane person from leaving their ringer on when they [...]

half.com to the rescue

Saturday, August 13th, 2005

Well, I just did the semi-yearly textbook buying ritual, and half.com saved me ~$125. I ended up buying my math book from Varney’s since the price was comparable and ordering the wrong edition of a math is almost certain death, but the other books were about half as expensive if I ordered online.
And I [...]
